Oak Grove has the distinction of being home to the only modern confirmation of a meteorite striking a person. The house is no longer standing where the event occurred, however, the location is about 1.5 miles from Town Hall.

Ann Hodges was on her couch around 12:45 p.m., November 30, 1954, when the meteorite crashed through the roof of her house and struck her on the hip as she lay sleeping. She was awakened by the loud noise and the extreme pain from the impact. The meteorite was approximately eight pounds and left a severe bruise on Mrs. Hodges hip. The Hodges Meteorite is on display at the Alabama Museum of Natural History at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Hodges gave the meteorite to the Museum in March 1956.
